Topic Definitions

Select a topic for an explanation of how the State Energy Program (SEP) categorizes the activities of state energy offices supported by DOE. You'll read simple definitions, link to online examples of state energy offices that typify or excel in each SEP topic, and find lists of work that is not included under teach SEP topic to differentiate them.

This list originates from several sources. DOE requires some measures. Other SEP topics are directly linked to technology programs in DOE's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) that fund work in the states. Several reflect work in specific renewable energy or energy efficiency technologies. Finally, some topics derive from the shared experience of a number of states with similar types of programs, such as, for example, energy performance contracting for state facilities.
