Efforts are being made by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to diversify our fuel supply with biofuels. Currently DOE is devoting significant amounts of time, money and resources to develop a vast supply of next-generation, cellulosic biofuels (non-food) made from resources such as wood chips, switchgrass, wheat straw, sweet sorghum and other agricultural waste products that are not meant for human consumption.

  • In 1908, Henry Ford produced the Model T as a flexible fuel vehicle that could run on ethanol, gasoline, or a combination of the two. (Source: Energy Information Administration)
