Located 60 miles northwest of Las Vegas, the Nevada Test Site is a distributed power testing facility that can take advantage of the "real life" distribution configurations available as a result of previous investments in national security-related facilities. The site includes a substation, distribution lines, local load, variable length feeder lines, and distributed generation equipment that may be used in a variety of ways, including intentional fault shutdowns and other major events that are not typically suitable for testing on actual utility lines and facilities.
