"Operation Change Out" Spurs Efficient Lighting at Military Bases
In honor of Earth Day, DOE and the U.S. Department of
Defense launched a new Energy Star campaign called
"Operation Change Out," which will challenge military bases
across the country to install Energy Star-qualified compact
fluorescent lamps in their on-base housing. More

EPA Launches "Save the World, Start with Energy Star"
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA),
saving the world does not involve saving a cheerleader, but
rather, taking action to reduce your greenhouse gas
emissions. A new Energy Star Web site provides a list of
steps to take as well as a pledge, allowing anyone to be a

First Large Building-Integrated Wind Turbines Spin in Bahrain
The world's first integration of utility-scale wind turbines into
a building achieved a milestone recently, as the three
turbines mounted on the Bahrain World Trade Center spun in
unison for the first time. In contrast, a Boston airport is using
much smaller turbines on the roof of one of its buildings. More

DOE Announces New Energy Star Criteria for Water Heaters
Next year, consumers will be able to buy water heaters
carrying the Energy Star label. DOE has established new
Energy Star criteria for solar water heaters, heat pump water
heaters, and three types of gas-fired water heaters.

DOE and EPA Honor Energy Star Partners
DOE and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
honored 76 businesses, groups, and government entities on
April 1 for achieving major energy savings or helping
customers save money and energy through their work with

California Utility Inks Deal for Nearly 1,500 Solar Homes
An agreement between the Sacramento Municipal Utility
District and homebuilder Woodside Homes will lead to 1,487
new energy-efficient solar homes near Rancho Cordova,
about 10 miles east of Sacramento, California. Another
homebuilder is also launching new green homes in San Jose. More

Washington Nationals Start the Baseball Season in a New Green Park
The nation's capitol is now home to the nation's first green
ballpark, as the new stadium for the Washington Nationals
has earned LEED Silver certification. The Colorado Rockies,
Cleveland Indians, and San Francisco Giants started the
trend last year by installing solar panels at their ballparks. More
