EcoVillage Project Wins Ohio Governor's Energy Efficiency Award

The BSC Building America project — EcoVillage Townhomes at 58th Street — has just been awarded a 2003 Ohio Governor's Award for Excellence in Energy Efficiency. This award program "honors individuals, businesses, industries and organizations that have improved Ohio's economic competitiveness and its environment through the effective and innovative use of energy efficiency" [Ohio Department of Development].

BSC partnered with the Detroit Shoreway Community Development Organization to design and construct 20 of the most energy- and resource-efficient multi-family dwellings in the City of Cleveland (see the Building America EcoVillage case study).

The townhome project was one of the first steps in a major urban neighborhood revitalization project centered around a mass transit station. To date, about 10 of the 20 townhomes have been completed and sales of the two- and three-story units have been strong. For more information on the awards, see the "Governor's Award for Excellence in Energy Efficiency."

This development was also one of three projects nominated for the Northern Ohio Live 2003 Award of Achievement in the Environment category.
