On April 30, IBACOS welcomed members of the Department of Energy, Department of Interior, Department of Agriculture, Department of Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, Pulte Homes, Washington Homes, and K. Hovnanian to a pilot home for the final tour in a series focused on building an energy-efficient, high performance home. Brad Oberg, Chief Technology Officer of IBACOS, spoke about the company's role in the Building America program. Chip Merlin, Vice President of Operations for Washington Homes, talked about their commitment to building high performance homes. David Garman, Assistant Secretary of the Department of Energy, presented the builder with the home's Energy Star® certificate. Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, Brad Oberg and John Broniek, Builder Programs Manager at IBACOS, led the attendees on tours of the finished home.

The home is a two-story model with a full basement and was designed to obtain a Home Energy Rating System (HERS) score of 90. To achieve this energy efficiency goal, IBACOS' systems engineering design focuses on an improved building envelope, high efficiency mechanical equipment, building airtightness, and an engineered duct layout design.

For more information on the pilot home or the first educational tour, see the April 2003 news entry titled "IBACOS Sponsors Tours of Energy-Efficient Homes".
