Melissa Knott, Director of Sustainability for Forest City Stapleton, was inducted into the "Built Green Hall of Fame" for her role in promoting the sustainable development of Denver's former international airport.
Ms. Knott was credited with "advancing green building and building science through a determined and resourceful pursuit of information and technical support for the builders of Stapleton Redevelopment." Each year Built Green Colorado, a program of the Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Denver, acknowledges a select few whose service and commitment to the program and the principles of sustainable development are deserving of special recognition.
Ms. Knott is a 2001 graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder's Business School with an M.A. in Business Administration, concentrating in real estate development. She joined Forest City Stapleton, Inc., in 2001. Prior to directing the sustainable development for Stapleton, Ms. Knott worked in residential development on the East Coast.
All homes at Stapleton are required to meet, and preferably exceed, the minimum level of the Built Green Colorado program. Built Green Colorado is administered by the Home Builders Association of Metro Denver (HBA) and supported by the Governor's Office of Energy Management and Conservation (OEMC), Xcel Energy, E-Star Colorado, and the Colorado Association of Home Builders.
Built Green Colorado is a voluntary program that uses buyer demand, market education and builder training to encourage builders to build homes that—
- Have better energy efficiency and reduce pollution
- Have healthier indoor air
- Reduce water usage
- Preserve natural resources
- Have improved durability and reduced maintenance needs.
Building America's IBACOS industry team has provided ongoing technical support to the Stapleton project to provide recommendations for cost performance trade-offs that can increase energy performance without increasing housing costs and quality assurance training to ensure that maximum performance is achieved from house energy systems.
