Cooking Products Rulemaking

The Department held an informal public meeting on April 27, 2006, to discuss and receive comments on issues to be addressed in the Framework Document for establishing energy conservation standards for residential electric and gas ranges and ovens and microwave ovens, dishwashers, dehumidifiers, and commercial clothes washers.

The U.S. Department of Energy published a Final Rule for Electric Cooking Products on September 8, 1998, to address the energy conservation standards for electric cooking products (including microwave products) and substitute the term "cooking products" for the current obsolete term "kitchen ranges and ovens". This rule became effective on October 8, 1998.

The Department also amended its test procedures for Kitchen Ranges, Cooktops, Ovens, and Microwave Ovens which was published on October 3, 1997.
