The Maine legislature meets annually from early January to mid-April. During the session, the governor must sign or veto legislation within 10 days of transmittal (except Sundays) or it becomes law without signature. If the session adjourns before the signing deadline passes and the governor fails to act, the bill becomes law unless it is returned to the legislature within three days after the next meeting of the same legislature.
